mIRC

Installing mIRC for NetMath PC Users

1. Go to www.mirc.com/get.html and download the mIRC Install File.

2. Open the file to begin installation. When finished, launch the application by checking the box as shown below.

3. When the program opens, click Continue as shown below.

4. When the mIRC Options window comes up, fill out the boxes. Include your first and last name under "Full Name" and your e-mail address. For your nickname, use your first name, followed by an underscore, and then your last name. An example is shown below.

5. Now that your information is stored, we'll set up the client to connect to the NetMath chat server. Click on "Servers" on the leftside menu, under Connect, as shown below.

6. Click "Add" to add a new server. The Add Server window will come up.

7. For Server Description, just put "NetMath Chat Server." IRC Server should say irc.netmath.uiuc.edu. Also, make sure to change the port to 7000 - your client will not work on port 6667. You may leave Group and Password blank. Click "Add" to save.

8. Now click "Connect to Server" to connect.

9. When connected, a window will pop up called "mIRC Favorites," as shown below. Under "Enter a channel name and click join:," type #netmath, then click Join.

10. Congratulations! You're now in the chat. The mentor on duty should greet you, then you can ask them whatever questions you might have.

11. In the future, to connect to the NetMath server, once you open mIRC and click Continue, you can start on Step 8, as the data from Steps 1-7 are saved for you.
